Dress Fever

Evening wear

So I was looking through my friend Aishah's photo albums, it's undeniable how beautiful she is, but also how beautiful her wardrobe is too! I love her choice of dresses and experimentation of lengths and shapes. As a young woman, she wants her wardrobe to consist of fashionable pieces however when it comes to evening wear choices, it can be tricky to bridge the line between cheesy and classy. Most girls love a bit of sparkle and lace but they also want to purchase dresses that compliment their body shapes.

When it comes to styling for petite girls it's hard to find dresses that don't make your legs look super skinny. By investing in dresses that hug around your stomach and then flare out, the attention is diverted to your slim waist line, almost giving an illusion that you don't have skinny legs.

Must have: Every girl should invest in a black or white lace dress, these pieces are timeless and never go out of fashion. Petite girls can relate when I say it's not easy to purchase a dress for a night out as they have to think of what complements their body shapes and height. Sometimes trying to find a sexy evening dress is hard as visually petite girls don't suit boob tubes or body con dresses as they don't complements their body features. However there are dresses out there such as the flirty flock as seen worn by Aishah which not only braces her petite frame, but adds a sexy feel to her evening wear.

If you're going for a more unique elegant look then check out the dress as seen above and feel free to be inspired. It's a marvelous mix of fairy tale chic and high fashion couture, the shapes and layering that the dress is composed of looks amazing on Aishah. By having a neutral plum colour palette for this dress keeps the look girly, but the one shoulder sleeve and ruffles adds that McQueen edge to it. Finised off by a pastel pink waist band which allows the dress to contour her petite shape providing a effortless finishing look.

Key trend: "Modern Romance" is one of the key themes for S'S 14, this dress is composed of sheer metallic fabrics which has been seen in the Fyodor Golan S'S14 collection at LFW.

Check out collections by Isabel Marant, Christopher Kane and Antonio Marras to get a feel for the up and coming modern romance trends.

Here are a few of my favourites:

On the other hand if you're a simple kind of girl and you are going to more of a corporate social event and you want to glam up, following fashion icon Audrey Hepburn classic style of the little black dress can never go wrong. This look is timeless as it allows you to style up your outfit with pearl accessories and can work for anyone.

If you require a red carpet glam essence into your wardrobe, dare to purchase dresses with slits down the side or back less pieces. As see worn by numerous celebrities you can either kill the look or stand in the hall of shame. Aishah looks amazing in this dress which kills two birds with one stone, backless with a slit! Anyone else dare to try?

Lastly, if you're someone that just loves wearing black and long length pieces, invest in different textures skirts and leggings and pair them, as seen by Aishah, with simple or decor crop tops depending on your style. This can allow you to revamp your wardrobe each time you go out by purchasing new crop tops and pairing them with long skirts or leggings. When wearing simple black textured pieces together, remember to accessories to switch the look from being casual to evening wear appropriate and don't forget to add a bit of height to your look with your killer heels ladies!

Love: The velvet cloak (Urban outfitters)
Incorporating different textures and layering creates different fashionable dimensions to the outfit.

Aishahs styling tips:

1) Describe your style in 3 words?

Urban, chic, timeless

2) Who are your style icons?

I love the likes of Olivia Palermo and Victoria Beckham for their elegant, modern sense of style but on a day-to-day basis, I look to Rihanna for her edgy wardrobe choices, she makes and breaks the rules of fashion and carries them off effortlessly.

3) What influences your fashion choices?

Whilst I keep up to date with the latest fashion trends, I alter them to suit my personality and team them with staple items that create a timeless look.

4) Where do you shop most and why?

I'm a Topshop and Urban Outfitters kinda girl- they're perfect for college-girl-with-an-attitude look. My trade mark outfits usually come from them, paired with either trainers or biker boots! Also ASOS is also vital for my fashion necessities.

5) Any styling top for those who love your style?

You can never go wrong in skinny jeans and an over-sized top - and when in doubt, accessories! I love the vintage look, created by layering and knitwear. I'm also a fan of combining and contrasting textures and styles: leather and velvet to biker and classy....and black is DEFINITELY the new black!
