The Met Gala is an annual red carpet event in aid to helping the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute. Being one of the most exclusive social events in New York, attendees range from personalities from art, fashion and entertainment. It is also one of fashion's most glamorous events and a time to showcase fashions finest selections on the red carpet runway, so let's run you through some of the hottest looks of the night.

Now traditionally when attending balls, we all think of elegant long ball gowns, however these actress opted for the less girly outfits and switched to the dark side consisting of mesh fabrics , leopard print and detailed embroidery.

However, there were a few who stuck to the abiding rules, these elegant ball gowns are tailored to perfection, from the draping and sizing to feminine proportion. Karlie Kloss's number is my personal favourite you can never go wrong when wearing Oscar De La Renta.

Monochrome continues to be a favourite in every girl's wardrobe, including Rihanna & Cara. Stella McCartney uses simple silhouettes and blocked colouring to create a minimalist yet stylish look for the red carpet.

Best dressed
Debuting at the met gala ball , Kendall Jenner stole the night by being the best dressed lady on the red carpet in a beautiful custom Topshop piece. This pale pink satin mermaid dress highlighted key trends of SS'14 ( Modern Romance & Nature Girl). This custom designed piece consists of a corset top and mermaid finishing. Corsets are an emerging trend for not only ready-to-wear by formal styles too. Well done Topshop for creating this masterpiece!
